UPDATE: The Interstate 40 westbound has opened up again, but traffic is moving slowly, according Arizona Department Of Transportation. However, I-40 Eastbound remains blocked. Drivers are advised to be cautious.
Bad weather is likely the culprit of a 20 car accident which occurred on the I-40 freeway this morning, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety (ADPS). However, authorities at the scene are still investigating the cause of the pileup.
ADPS said no injuries have been reported and have no estimates of when vehicles will be fully cleared and roads reopened.
Five passenger vehicles, four semitrailers and an overturned semitrailer are among several vehicles involved in the massive accident, according to ADPS. Workers at the scene this morning are still working to remove vehicles as the freeway undergoes closures at and around the A-1 Mountain marker.
Closures and updates of the accident were found on the FLAGscanner twitter feed, which has been tweeting of the wreck throughout the morning.
