Impressions from latest Dark Knight Rises trailer

After a multitude of low-resolution bootlegged previews had spread all over YouTube (and were subsequently taken down by Warner Brothers), an HD-quality studio-approved version of the Dark Knight Rises trailer debuted on iTunes and is now finally beginning to go viral. If the months of Hollywood hype surrounding the film’s principal photography, plot synopsis, characters and teaser trailer weren’t enough to get you whipped into a Dark Knight frenzy of excitement and apprehension, then this trailer will surely do the trick.

Impressions of The Dark Knight Rises #2 Trailer:

-          Bane is quite intimidating. Aside from some close-up shots of his imposing visage, he is seen stalking down hallways with a no-nonsense and authoritative demeanor. He is known for both his  immense physical and mental strength, which makes him a formidable opponent. I cannot wait to see the behaviors and idiosyncrasies that Tom Hardy will bring to the character.

Batman looks like he could use some help here.

-          Alfred continues to dish out many paternal pearls of caring wisdom to Bruce Wayne, stating solemnly “You are as precious to me as you were to your own mother and father. I swore to them that I would protect you . .  .and I haven’t.”

-          According to one of the generals speaking near the beginning, Gotham is in a time of “peace.” Judging by the rest of the trailer, this period apparently doesn’t last very long. A stadium’s field collapses into itself, mansions are ransacked and prisoners are storming out of their maximum security facilities armed to the teeth and hailing Bane, who is without doubt the harbinger of the impending chaos and violent usurpation of Gotham.

Prisoners waving guns in the air escaping from prison...the norm during peaceful times.

-           This impending violence is further foreshadowed by Anne Hathaway (Selina Kyle/Cat Woman), who ominously states “You think this is going to last? There is a storm coming Mr. Wayne. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you’re all going to wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.”

Nothing like cryptic prophecies of doom at a fancy party.

-           That haunting and chilling cry playing through the trailer sent shivers down my spine. This is a verbal salute of allegiance towards Bane, and while I don’t yet know the exact translation, Bruce is informed by Alfred that part of it means “Rise.”

-           There shall be action. And lots of it. The storming of a mansion, Hines Ward outrunning the implosion of a football field, men grappling down this deep dark pit and Batman bracing himself as Bane approaches him. Due to the fact Bane is physically superior to Batman in every conceivable way, the brief glimpses we get in the trailer infer to me that Batman isn’t doing so well against his superior opponent.

To think this is just one of the many action scenes in this film.

-             This trailer also allows for brief glimpses of Joseph-Gordon Levitt and Marion Cotillard, who play John Blake, a Gotham beat cop, and Miranda Tate, a Wayne Enterprises board member, respectively.

-             There are several vehicles displayed through the trailer as well. One seems to be a camouflaged Tumbler, while the other appears to be some sort of tank version. The final shots show two Tumblers speeding down the road along with this remarkable looking vehicle.

Holy cow that is freaking awesome.

Not quite sure what it is, but I can say it is pretty darn amazing-looking.

I simply cannot wait for this film. It looks epic in every sense of the word. The apprehension and anxiety directed towards it has nearly reached suffocating levels, and it is easily the most anticipated movie of the summer. Countless websites are already proposing their own hypotheses as to the plot and fate of our hero, and Cracked.com has a particularly interesting and rational argument I found very compelling.

Critics and pundits have already composed a myriad  of articles stating their complaints and worries about the film. They range from concern over Tom Hardy’s ability to accurately portray Bane to the fact Anne Hathaway’s Catwoman suit looks campy and corny.

I urge everyone to mostly ignore this chatter. It only stems from the ferocious love America possesses for Batman and  is a direct product of the mass anticipation for this film. If you ever begin to truly doubt The Dark Knight Rises from the articles you read or the on-set photos you glimpse in a tabloid rag, remember this one crucial thing: back in 2007, Christopher Nolan selected an actor named Heath Ledger to portray The Joker in his upcoming film The Dark Knight. There was public outcry from both casual fans and fan boys alike.

And look how that turned out.
