Police Beat (Sept. 3 — Sept. 9)

 

Sept. 9

At 12:19 a.m., staff at Sechrist Hall reported multiple people smoking marijuana between Allen Hall and Gateway Student Success Center.

Officers responded and discovered the odor was unfounded. The students were cited for minor in consumption and released.

 

At 8:34 a.m., a worker for a construction company at Audrey Auditorium reported a window had been broken on the east side of the building. The incident occurred between 6 p.m. Saturday and the time the incident was reported.

An officer was dispatched and the case was closed with all leads exhausted.

 

At 2:57 p.m., a subject reported her friend had been sexually assaulted on Sept. 1 early in the morning and the same suspect attempted to assault her between the evening of Sept. 8 and the early morning of Sept. 9.

An officer responded and the case is currently open.

 

At 9:00 p.m., staff at McConnell Hall reported an assault had just occurred.

Officers responded and one student was arrested and booked into Coconino County Jail for aggravated assault and first degree trespassing. Two others were arrested and booked on first degree trespassing.

 

At 9:13 p.m., Flagstaff Police Department requested assistance on a fatal hit-and-run at Walapai Road and Mohawk Drive.

 

Sept. 8

At 2:32 a.m., staff at Reilly Hall reported the odor of marijuana from the fourth floor.

After officer responded, one student was cited and released for drug possession and minor in consumption.

 

At 4:32 p.m., a person reported a Campus Heights resident had sent farewell texts to friends and could be a suicide risk.

An officer responded and the student was transported to Flagstaff Medical Center (FMC) for an Advil overdose.

 

At 5:18 p.m., an officer responded to Coconino County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) where a student was being booked on separate charges. The officer had charges of false reporting a name to an officer and failure to provide a truthful name when detained as a result of a previous investigation on Sept. 5.

The man had been pulling tree stakes out of the ground near the bookstore and was released after a field interview. Further investigation revealed the suspect has used a fake name.

 

Sept.7

At 2:44 p.m., staff at Gabaldon Hall reported drug paraphernalia may have been seen during an internal investigation.

An officer responded and the residents were not home. The hall staff was told to notify the officers when they were.

 

At 5:25 p.m., staff at McConnell hall reported a package from UPS smelled like marijuana.

An officer responded and after all leads were exhausted, the package was seized for destruction.

 

At 7:46 p.m., a subject reported their laptop had been stolen from the Liberal Arts Building between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m.

An officer responded and the case was closed after all leads were exhausted.

 

Sept. 6

At 8:44 a.m., a subject reported a male classmate tried to follow her home from class at the Communication Building on the night of Sept. 5.

An officer took down the report for informational purposes.

 

At 11:45 a.m., a student employee of Parking and Shuttle Services reported they had been harassed over the Internet after booting a car in Lot 16 the night before.

 

At 4:37 p.m., a resident at Cowden Hall reported their parking permit had been stolen from their dorm room sometime between 3 p.m. Sept. 5 and 9 a.m. Sept. 6.

An officer responded and he case was closed after all leads were exhausted.

 

At 7:36 p.m., a pedestrian reported a bobcat near Pine Ridge Village. Arizona Game and Fish was contacted and officers were informed to chase it away if it was healthy and not aggressive. The bobcat ran away on its own.

 

Sept. 5

At 6:32 p.m., a subject reported his wallet had been stolen from the Health and Learning Center sometime between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m.

An officer responded and the case was closed after all leads were exhausted.

 

Sept. 4

At 5:49 p.m., Drury Inn staff reported a female subject had been loitering around the property for several hours yelling at people.

An officer responded and advised the woman about trespassing campus wide.

 

At 10:41 p.m., Las Cruces Police Department in New Mexico reported a female had called 911 to report her friend living at NAU was threatening suicide at an unknown location.

Two officers responded and paged the on-call counselor to speak with the student, who voluntarily admitted herself to FMC for an evaluation.

 

At 11:44 p.m., staff at McConnell Hall reported three males were throwing bottles at the building, impersonating law enforcement and were trying to punch a resident in the face.

Officers responded to the scene and the subjects were gone. The case was closed after all leads were exhausted.

 

Sept. 3

At 2:02 p.m., staff at the Drury Inn reported a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

The items were brought to the police office for destruction and the case was closed after all leads were exhausted.

 

At 2:40 p.m., staff with Fire and Life Safety reported a smoke detector had been taken from a room in the Geology Building.
