Jack Chat: Kelli Dallmann

By Alli Jenney

The Lumberjack met with senior volleyball player Kelli Dallmann outside her second home at the Rolle Activity Center in order to dig into her life. As setter and leader of the team for the last three years, Dallmann has already received two MVP awards in her 2012 season and now intends on leading her team to the Big Sky Conference Championship. NAU’s (Northern Arizona University’s) star outside hitter talks on some of her more personal details such as her celebrity crushes, taste in extreme sports and music interests.

LJ: What’s been your most memorable moment in class so far?
KD:Betty as a teacher. Betty Brown. Just Betty Brown (health sciences assistant professor).

LJ: What’s been your most memorable moment on the court so far?
KD: That’s like a really hard question. I don’t know, I literally don’t know.

LJ: Maybe it’s still to come?
KD: Yes! Yes!

LJ: What’s something the team may know about you but the rest of the school may not?
KD: Most people probably don’t know [that] my little sister dives here. She’s on the dive team and I think that’s pretty cool.

LJ: Are there any extreme sports you’d like to try some day? Like skydiving?
KD: Um, no. No skydiving. But I do want to play beach volleyball professionally.

LJ: So you want to do beach. Misty May or Kerri Walsh, is one of [those players] your idol?

KD: Oh, I love them.

LJ: Do you have an idol from another sport? Or maybe an Olympian crush?
KD: Let me think about this because all we did was watch the Olympics for three weeks straight. I think my crush was Kerri Walsh. Man, I’m going with my girl crush.

LJ: And now who is your celebrity —?
KD: (cutting in before finishing the question): Ryan Reynolds.

LJ: So then what would your favorite movie be?
KD: Sound of Music.

LJ: Sound of Music? So Ryan —?
KD: (as if on cue): And The Proposal. And Miss Congeniality. Anything with Sandra Bullock or Ryan Reynolds.

LJ: What was the last movie you saw in the theaters?
KD: The Campaign. So funny. I love Will Ferrell too. He’s another crush, a weird crush. He’s awesome.

LJ: What’s the last played song on your iPod?
KD: Jason Mraz. One of his songs.

LJ: So, would he be your favorite artist then?
KD: No. My favorite band is the Eagles.

LJ: What would be a lyric or a quote that you live by?
KD: That’s another hard one; I like too many songs. Oh! “Shake It Out” by Florence+The Machine. “Shake it out, shake it out.”

LJ: Okay and last question. What does being a Lumberjack mean to you?
KD: Just being proud. [Having] pride and being a Lumberjack. You know, being from Flagstaff and representing the school . . . it’s just about pride.
