Quickflick: Trouble With The Curve
By Mikayla Vanarsdel
Trouble With The Curve is quickly making its mark as the next must-see romantic comedy perfect for ladies’ night out or a lovely mother-daughter bonding film now that autumn is giving way to colder weather.
Trouble With The Curve starts with Clint Eastwood who plays Gus. Gus is the best Major League Baseball scout who, in his old age, is having trouble seeing. His daughter Mickey (Amy Adams) is an Atlanta lawyer aspiring for a partnership. When Mickey discovers her father’s medical problems, she goes on leave to travel to North Carolina to help her father scout a phenomenal hitter. Mickey and Gus’ relationship is a difficult one at best. Mickey lost her mom when she was six and Gus was not the most ideal father.
Along the way his daughter runs into love interest, Johnny (Justin Timberlake), a burnt out all-star turned major league scout. Johnny, Mickey and Gus are all there to scout this hitter who has “trouble with a curve ball.” They face both professional and emotional troubles if they want to scout this minor league star.
One plus of the movie is the viewer doesn’t need to know a lot about baseball in order to understand this film. Don’t let the fear of not having baseball knowledge let you miss out on such a great movie.
The movie left me with a sense of closure and happiness for the characters. I would recommend this movie for a date, a family night or a bunch of friends out on the town.
